Tell us a bit about yourself
My name’s Gary Webster. I’m the Group Health and Safety Manager of Cooper and Turner, a big vast company. We make fasteners, bolts, anchor bolts, nuts and threadings for construction, tunneling, rail, and bespoke projects.
Because I wanted the managers to do the IOSH course because I wanted them to appreciate the severity of health and safety. Why we need to have things in place. I wanted them to get educated. I wanted them to become passionate. And I want them to be safe.
I’ve noticed since doing the course, the managers they’ve become more responsible. Now, they’re asking questions and we’re getting more involvement. Rather than me asking them the questions and chasing them, I’m getting this from the department managers.
How has it impacted their attitude towards health and safety?
The course has improved the attitudes of department managers and focus. They are looking at the safety aspects rather than just the production.
The feedback I’ve had is they like the humour what’s incorporated in the course. I think if you put in humour, you can remember it and you can learn a little bit quicker. The guys who have done it, all I’ve heard is positive remarks about how good it was.
Awesome! Anything you’d like to add?
I’d just like to thank the team at Compassa for all that they’ve done, the support we’ve had. We’ve had updates about the guys and how they’ve been progressing. So that’s been a godsend for us. I would highly recommend the course to anybody out there. We will be using Compassa again.
